Why SAP Migration Teams Still Lose Control Even with the Right Tools

There is a migration platform for extraction, transformation and loading.

There is an MDM system for governing customers, suppliers and products.

There is a data catalog for discovering datasets and technical lineage.

There are data-quality checks for missing values, formats and reference lists.

There are Jira tickets, SharePoint folders, mapping workbooks and project dashboards.

And yet the programme still reaches integration testing with unresolved questions:

The problem is not necessarily that the organisation selected poor tools.

The problem is that each tool controls a different part of the work.

The migration platform moves the data.

The MDM platform governs productive records.

The catalog describes the existing data landscape.

The quality tool checks records against defined expectations.

Jira records work and decisions.

Excel remains the place where people negotiate mappings.

What is often missing is a controlled layer connecting all these parts into one validated project model.

That is the problem Martenweave is intended to solve.

The common failure: every tool is correct within its own boundary

Consider a material migration into SAP S/4HANA and EWM.

The migration platform contains a transformation for the warehouse unit of measure.

Migration platforms solve execution

Enterprise migration platforms are built to move data through a controlled delivery process.

Syniti, for example, positions its platform around migration methodology, transformation, data quality, business-readiness validation, automation, dashboards and repeatable execution across complex ERP programmes.

These are substantial capabilities.

A migration platform can help teams:

If the central problem is unreliable migration execution, this is the correct class of system.

But execution tooling does not automatically create an independent canonical model of every business attribute, rule, exception, decision and external dependency surrounding the migration.

The transformation may be implemented correctly according to the current specification.

The specification itself may be incomplete.

A field can be loaded successfully into SAP while using the wrong business meaning.

A value mapping can pass every technical test while ignoring a country-specific decision recorded elsewhere.

A migration platform can contain some or all of this information. The management question is whether the programme has actually modelled and connected it—not whether the platform could theoretically store it.

The remaining pain

Migration teams commonly lose control when:

Migration programmes often respond to every defect by adding another check.

Over time, they accumulate validations that:

The validation script can still reject empty values.

The interface specification can still describe the old interpretation.

All four artefacts may be individually accessible and correctly versioned.

They still contradict one another.

Collaboration systems tell the organisation that information exists.

They do not normally validate the relationships among field definitions, mappings, datasets, rules and decisions.

Martenweave treats the ticket or document as evidence attached to a structured model element.

The decision is not merely stored.

If that model element changes later, the decision remains traceable.

Excel solves negotiation

Excel remains central because mappings are negotiated, not merely configured.

Removing Excel entirely would make many projects harder, not better.

The problem begins when the workbook becomes the only place where the model exists.

The dataset can pass every quality check.

The message can remain schema-compatible.

The catalogue can show the complete technical flow.

The programme can still be working from the wrong model.
