How much consulting effort sits behind one green status on a steering-committee slide?

The dashboard may contain a simple line:

Behind that line, several teams may have spent days assembling the evidence.

The data-quality team runs validation.

The consulting cost is largely invisible because the deliverable looks small.

The expensive part of readiness reporting is not the colour on the dashboard. It is repeatedly proving what the colour means.

This is a recurring cost in SAP migration, MDM, integration, cutover and AMS programmes.

The problem is not that teams collect evidence.

They must.

The problem is that evidence is usually assembled as a temporary reporting exercise rather than maintained as part of the model.

Why a readiness dashboard can be correct and still be misleading

It should not be a manually negotiated summary of disconnected reports.

The practical test is:

Can we regenerate the current status, trace every number to its source and explain which changes would invalidate it?

When the answer is yes, readiness becomes reusable programme infrastructure.

When the answer is no, every reporting cycle becomes another consulting project.
